Beggs JV strikes fast, corrals Ponies
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES,

The Beggs Junior Varsity Golden Demons wasted no time setting the tone in Monday night’s matchup, unleashing a flurry of big plays to cruise to a convincing 27-6 road victory over the Kellyville Ponies.

Quarterback Baker Copeland led the early charge, connecting with Sterling Jordan on a 48-yard strike to open the game. Two plays later, Copeland powered into the end zone from one yard out to put Beggs on the board. After a quick three-and-out by Kellyville, Copeland and Jordan struck again – this time on a 44-yard touchdown pass. A successful two-point run from Ethan Tucker made it 14-0 before the Ponies could find their footing.

The Demons continued their aerial assault in the second quarter. On the first play of the next drive, Copeland hit Josiah Hughes on a 55-yard seam route to extend the lead to 20-0. The Beggs defense held firm throughout the first half, allowing just 10 total yards and ending the second quarter with an interception by Dagan Speer.

Beggs’ defense remained dominant after halftime, finishing the game allowing fewer than 100 total yards. Defensive standouts included Easton Bradley (11 tackles, 1 sack), Jayston Tennyson (7 tackles, 1 sack), and interceptions from both Speer and Jordan Olden.

The Demons added one more score in the third quarter when Brody Drinnon took over at quarterback, leading a methodical drive that ended with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Hughes. Tucker’s PAT made it 27-0.

Kellyville found the end zone in the fourth quarter on a five-yard touchdown run by #30, but the Ponies’ twopoint conversion attempt failed, sealing the final score at 27-6.

Beggs finished with 319 total yards – 274 of them through the air. Copeland was a perfect 6-of-6 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Drinnon went 6-of-7 for 100 yards and one score. Hughes led all receivers with 142 yards and two touchdowns on five catches, while Jordan hauled in four passes for 107 yards and one score.

“This is a great opportunity for our young players to gain valuable experience each Monday night,” said Beggs head coach David Shannon. “These kids are battling to get on the field for Friday night games, and I’m excited about the progression so far.”

Beggs JV (2-0) will return to action Monday, Sept. 22, with a home matchup against Henryetta.
