Beggs JH dominates early in victory over Kellyville Ponies
By TIFFANY BELL SPECIAL TO THE TIMES,

The Beggs Junior High Golden Demons (3-0) exploded out of the gate and never looked back Monday night, cruising to a 27-6 win over the Kellyville Ponies in a game defined by explosive plays and defensive dominance.

Beggs quarterback Zane Long turned in a performance to remember, racking up touchdowns in nearly every phase of the game. On just the second play from scrimmage, Long broke free for a 27-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. Moments later, Long made his presence felt on defense, stripping the ball from a Kellyville runner and racing 43 yards to the end zone for his second touchdown in under two minutes.

The Demons’ momentum only built from there. After forcing a quick four-and-out, running back Michael Cruz broke loose for a 16-yard gain to set up a 10-yard touchdown pass from Long to Jaxon Yandell. Long then powered in a successful twopoint conversion, stretching the lead to 20-0 with three minutes left in the first quarter.

Kellyville appeared to find some rhythm on the ensuing drive, moving the chains with a pair of first downs. But any hopes of a comeback were crushed when Long jumped a pass and took the interception 57 yards to the house. Cruz added the PAT, capping a dominant first quarter with Beggs leading 27-0.

While the scoring slowed in the second and third quarters, the Demons’ defense continued to shine. Saxon Arthurs led the defensive effort with double- digit tackles, while Judah Hughes added an interception to the stat sheet. Arthurs also contributed in the run game as part of a three-headed rushing attack—along with Cruz and Andrew Harvey – that combined for over 100 yards on the ground.

Kellyville’s lone score came in the fourth quarter on a 60-yard touchdown run by #8, but it proved too little, too late.

• Zane Long 27-yard touchdown run (kick no good)

• Long 43-yard fumble recovery touchdown (kick no good)

• Long 10-yard TD pass to Jaxon Yandell (Long run good)
