In what will go down as one of the most explosive games in Oklahoma high school football history, the Wilson Tigers came up just short in an 88-84 loss to the Savanna Bulldogs in a non-conference shootout on Friday.
The 172 combined points scored ranks third alltime in OSSAA history, trailing only the 178-point contests between Graham-Dustin vs. Bowlegs in 2019 (114-64) and Watts vs. Prue in 2006 (10474).
More remarkably, the 84 points scored by Wilson marks the most ever scored by a losing team in OSSAA football history. The previous record of 80 was held by Cyril, which fell to Garber 82-80 in a 1998 playoff game.
— Back-and-Forth Fireworks The Tigers trailed 14-16 after the first quarter but surged ahead in the second to take a 40-34 halftime lead. Savanna responded with a 32-point third quarter and the teams traded 22 points each in the final frame. Despite Wilson’s offensive onslaught, Savanna edged out the win by four.
