The Beggs Junior High softball team put up a determined fight against a strong Oktaha JH Gold Lady Tigers squad Saturday, ultimately falling 7-1 in a game that was closer than the score suggests.

Beggs struck first, jumping on the board in the opening inning when Madi Jones grounded out to drive in a run and give the Lady Demons an early 1-0 lead. That quick start set the tone as Beggs showed they were ready to compete with one of the toughest lineups they’ve faced this season.

In the circle, McKenna Morris showed poise under pressure, striking out four across three and twothirds innings. Despite Oktaha capitalizing on a few defensive miscues, Morris kept battling and limited the damage, holding their powerful offense to just three hits.

Offensively, Beggs continued to put runners on base. Jones, who also led the team with an RBI, collected one of the team’s three hits, while Paisley Kelley and Olivia Chreene added singles of their own. Each at-bat showed the Lady Demons’ persistence, as they worked to challenge Oktaha’s defense at every opportunity.

While Oktaha proved to be steady in the field and opportunistic at the plate, Beggs matched their energy with grit and resilience. Even when the Lady Tigers extended their lead in the later innings, the Lady Demons continued to battle, showing growth and confidence against top-tier competition.

Though the final score favored Oktaha, the performance from Beggs revealed plenty of positives – from their early offensive spark to their determination on the mound. The Lady Demons’ ability to go toe-to-toe with such a strong opponent is a promising sign as they look ahead to the rest of their season.
