Author of children’s books Valerie Tripp celebrates her birth date as Sept. 12, 1951, in Mount Kisco, N.Y. Growing up with two older sisters and a younger sister and brother, she attended Mt. Kisco Elementary School.
Valerie graduated from Yale University and has a Master of Education degree from Harvard University.
Valerie stated she became a writer because of the kind of person she is, curious, interested in everything, day dreamer, loves words and talking. She frequently speaks at schools, libraries and scout troop meetings.
Valerie is best known for her American Girl Series of 27 books and has written a STEM Series for National Geographic Kids called “IZZY Newton and the S.M.A.R.T. Squad.”
She lives in Silver Springs, M.D. where her husband, Michael teaches history at Montgomery College. They have a daughter Katherine and a golden retriever, Sunday. Valerie has been a writer for reading textbooks for three decades.
