The Henryetta Lions Club gathered for their latest meeting on Sept. 4 at The Shack 2.0, bringing together community-minded members for fellowship, updates and future planning. The meeting was called to order with 13 members present, including President Ashley Morris and a pair of guests: Jimmy Bussey, husband of Lion Shirley McCowan-Bussey, and guest speaker Amber Pippin, introduced by Lion Alicia Dudley.
— Sunshine & Smiles: Members share fun, travel plans Kicking off the meeting with good cheer, the “Sunshine Report” brought laughter and pride as Lion Amber Mordecai shared that she had reached her goal of eating six hot dogs in a Labor Day Weekend hot dog eating contest. Meanwhile, Lion Shirley announced she will be traveling soon to Spain, bringing international flair to the Lions’ local pride.
Tail Twister Lion LouAnn Smith added some playful fun with a brain teaser: “If you can’t see this, you’re too involved in the details of the subject to understand the big picture.” Lion John Tedlock nailed the answer – “forest through the trees” – earning recognition and a round of chuckles from fellow Lions.
— Guest Speaker: Financial Literacy Advocate Amber Pippin Lion Alicia introduced the meeting’s featured speaker, Amber Pippin, who recently stepped into the role of Community Financial Empowerment Educator (CFEE) at First Family Federal Credit Union. Amber gave an engaging presentation about her work promoting financial literacy throughout the communities First Family serves.
One of the standout programs she discussed was “Budget or Bust,” which gives young people a “dose of reality” through real-world budgeting simulations. The program is available to schools and youth organizations interested in enhancing financial education. Amber noted that First Family offers programs tailored to all age groups – from children to retirees – underscoring the importance of financial preparedness across life stages.
