Lady Eagles soar in three-game week
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

The Morris Lady Eagles put together an eventful week on the diamond, capped by a thrilling walk-off win and a decisive victory over Heavener, showing off grit, hustle and clutch performances. Despite a setback against powerhouse Henryetta, the Lady Eagles bounced back strong to close the week with momentum.

— Lady Eagles clip Heavener, 5-1 The Lady Eagles wasted no time getting on the board Thursday against Heavener FP, using plate discipline and aggressive base running to capture a 5-1 win.

In the bottom of the first, Morris exploded for five runs. Kailyn Fixico’s leadoff walk set the tone, followed by a Tenli Barnett single to center. An error by Heavener and back-to-back walks to Rylee Rock and Alayna Fixico kept the line moving. Alayna later stole home in a daring display of speed, helping cap off the inning.

On the mound, Brooke Thomas was lights out, going six innings while allowing just one hit and one unearned run, striking out eight and walking just one. Her dominant performance silenced the Heavener bats and earned the Lady Eagles the win.

Tenli Barnett led offensively with a 1-for-3 day and an RBI, while Thomas, Rock and Barnett each added singles. The Lady Eagles ran wild with six stolen bases, including two apiece by Kailyn and Alayna Fixico.

— Morris shut out by county-rival Henryetta Later that day, Morris faced a tall task taking on the HHS Lady Knights, and Henryetta’s red-hot bats proved too much, handing the Lady Eagles a 10-0 defeat.

Henryetta jumped ahead early when Ailanee Hicks drove in the game’s first run in the opening frame. The Lady Knights kept piling on, adding two more in the second with a Maddie Rock single and a Kynlee Wynne sacrifice bunt.

Morris ace Brooke Thomas pitched again but had trouble against the Knights’ lineup, allowing 15 hits and 10 runs (9 earned) over four innings. Despite striking out two, Henryetta’s well-balanced offensive attack kept the Lady Eagles on their heels.

Thomas had the only hit for Morris, going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Henryetta got stellar production from Maddie Rock and Kynlee Wynne, who each tallied three hits. Serenity Rex stood out with four RBIs and a 2-for-4 day in the 3-hole. Cialee Watkins added a pair of hits, and the Lady Knights played error-free defense. — Marris walks it off in dramatic finish On Saturday, the Lady Eagles returned to action in Wilson and delivered one of their most dramatic wins of the season, rallying past the Oilton Lady Panthers in a 6-5 walk-off victory.

Trailing 2-0 after a defensive miscue in the second inning, Morris responded with a three-run frame. Brooklyn Wright and Brooke Thomas came through with clutch singles to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Oilton tied the game again in the third thanks to a Rosenquist double. But Morris quickly answered. Katelyn Sparkman drove in a run with a single, and Rylee Rock added a sacrifice fly to put Morris up 5-3.

The Lady Panthers would not go quietly, tying the game once more in the top of the fourth. But Morris had the final say.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth and the winning run on base, Chyla Marris stepped up and delivered a base hit, scoring the runner and setting off a celebration at home plate. Brooke Thomas, making her third start of the week, pitched four innings, allowing four hits and five runs (only one earned) while striking out four and walking three.

Brooklyn Wright delivered from the nine-hole, going 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs. Marris, Sparkman, Kailyn Fixico and Thomas each added a hit. The Lady Eagles stayed aggressive on the base paths again, stealing six bases, with Fixico and Barnett each swiping two.
