As Week 2 of the high school football season wrapped up, Okmulgee County teams took the field with intensity, determination, and a thirst for redemption. From comeback wins to dominant shutouts, here’s a look at how the Bulldogs, Dragons, Eagles and Tigers fared in Friday night gridiron action.

— Bulldogs rebound with 36-30 win over Mounds After enduring a tough blowout loss to Checotah in their opener, the Okmulgee Bulldogs roared back into form on Friday night with a thrilling 36-30 victory over the Mounds Golden Eagles.

The win not only evened the Bulldogs’ season record at 1-1, but also served as a measure of revenge. The last time these two teams met, Mounds handed Okmulgee a 32-6 defeat – a score that clearly motivated the Bulldogs this time around.

The Friday night shootout saw Okmulgee trading scores with Mounds throughout the night, but ultimately, the Bulldogs pulled ahead for good, sealing the win in front of a rejuvenated home crowd.

With this momentum, Okmulgee will now turn their attention to a high-stakes district matchup as they host longtime rival Beggs on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m.

— Dragons dominate Wetumka, extend streak to 13 It was another dominant outing for the Dewar Dragons, who cruised to a 46-0 shutout win over the Wetumka Chieftains on Friday night.

The victory marked Dewar’s 13th consecutive win, continuing a red-hot streak that dates back to last season. Over those 13 games, the Dragons have outscored opponents by an average of 42.6 points – and Friday’s game was no exception.

This latest win pushed Dewar to 2-0 on the season, with both wins coming in commanding fashion. The defense was unrelenting, holding Wetumka scoreless, while the offense fired on all cylinders to post nearly 50 points.

Next up, Dewar will take to the road to face Weleetka on Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m., where they’ll look to extend their winning streak to 14 and keep the momentum rolling.

— Eagles fall to Hartshorne in season opener The Morris Eagles kicked off their season at home on Friday, but couldn’t capitalize on the home-field advantage, falling 26-6 to the visiting Hartshorne Miners.

Though the loss was disappointing, the Eagles showed notable improvement from last year’s lopsided 62-14 defeat to the same team. This year’s 20-point margin reflected a more disciplined defensive effort and flashes of offensive potential.

With the loss, Morris opens their season at 0-1, but the Eagles will get a chance to bounce back in front of their home crowd once again when they welcome Liberty for a Week 3 matchup on Friday at 7 p.m.

— Wilson falls to Destiny Christian in second-half slide The Wilson Tigers held their own through the first half of Friday’s game against Destiny Christian, staying neck-and-neck with the Wildcats. But the second half told a different story, as the Tigers were ultimately outpaced in a 44-24 loss.

The Tigers, now 1-1 on the season, struggled to contain Destiny Christian’s offensive surge after halftime. Despite putting up 24 points of their own, the defense couldn’t hold back a determined Wildcats squad.

Wilson now shifts focus to another road challenge, as they prepare to travel to Savanna for a 7 p.m. kickoff this Friday.
