The Okmulgee County Board of Commissioners met Monday, addressing a full agenda of routine approvals, infrastructure projects, and operational updates.
The meeting opened with an invocation that included a special prayer for the ongoing search for a missing woman in Okmulgee County. Commissioners and attendees paused to reflect on the efforts of search teams and the hope for her safe return.
The Board approved minutes from the Aug. 4 and Aug. 7 meetings before moving into the main order of business.
Commissioners approved the officers’ reports, employee forms, and Private property agreements were also discussed and approved, with District 2’s agreement involving work with Ramon Ramirez, District 3’s with Luanne Smith, and District 1’s with Julia Leslie.
The Board approved allocations for the monthly Alcoholic Beverage Tax and Motor Vehicle Tax, noting that alcohol tax revenues were higher than usual this month, with expectations for another increase next month due to recent events in town.
Invitation to Bid #3 was accepted for a new building for the Wilson Fire Department, which commissioners approved to move forward. This project is intended to improve facilities for the department, enhancing its readiness and service to the community.
Invitation to Bid #4 for concrete box culverts was also approved, ensuring needed materials are available for ongoing and upcoming county infrastructure projects. In another infrastructure development, the Board voted to accept Creager Road into the county road system. The road was constructed by a developer, and after a two-year review confirming all required work had been completed to county standards, commissioners praised the development as a small but well-built addition that will serve a new neighborhood.
Commissioners approved cash fund requests for appropriations as well as payment of claims for county expenses.
The scheduled report from Emergency Management was not given, as the director was actively participating in the search for the missing woman mentioned in the opening prayer.
— New Business & Intergovernmental Agreements Under new business, commissioners reviewed and approved three Memorandums of Agreement with the Muscogee Nation, noting that all other required signatures had been obtained prior to the meeting. Each commissioner received a copy relevant to their district.
The Board also adopted a base model policy and procedure for dispatch operations. County officials explained that this document serves as a framework that will be modified to meet local needs, providing a standardized starting point for dispatch protocols. County legal counsel had reviewed and approved the document, allowing commissioners to give their formal authorization.
With no further business, commissioners adjourned the meeting.
