Lady Eagles soar in season opener

The Morris Lady Eagles kicked off their season in dominant fashion, breezing past the Holdenville Lady Wolverines 7-0 in a Monday afternoon matchup at Holdenville.

Morris wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Kailyn Fixico singled in the first inning to bring in the first run. The Eagles continued to build momentum in the second inning, capitalizing on a Holdenville error. Alayna Fixico then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, allowing two more runs to cross the plate and extending the lead. By the third inning, Morris had firmly established control. Tenli Barnett delivered a clutch triple that scored two more runs, followed by Katelyn Sparkman’s sacrifice fly to add another run. The Eagles were firmly in command, holding a 6-0 lead after three innings.

On the mound, Brooke Thomas was nearly untouchable for Morris.

She threw three innings of no-hit ball, striking out eight and walking none, while giving up no runs. Her stellar performance earned her the win, as she stymied the Lady Wolverines’ offense. On the other side, Holdenville’s Dixie Gamble struggled, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits over three and one-third innings, while striking out three and walking three.

The Morris offense was led by Kailyn Fixico and Brooke Thomas, who both recorded two hits. Fixico and Barnett were especially potent in the lineup, each driving in two runs to contribute significantly to the team’s commanding victory. Defensively, Morris was flawless, committing no errors. Katelyn Sparkman was a standout in the field, recording eight chances without a misstep.

Holdenville’s lone bright spot came from Addison Brown, who managed a single hit in her one at-bat, but the Lady Wolverines’ offense was unable to generate any significant threats against the Eagles’ stellar defense and pitching.

With the 7-0 win, the Morris Lady Eagles set the tone for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
