Henryetta’s Labor Day Celebration will start with a wag and a woof this year as the VFW/ VFW Auxiliary Post 539 hosts the Vets for Pets Costume Contest on Saturday, Aug. 30, at The Briefcase, 303 W. Main Street.
Registration will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the contest beginning at 12:30 p.m. Pet owners are encouraged to dress up their four-legged friends in creative costumes for a chance to win cash prizes – $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third.
Every registered pet will also receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a free pet exam and one-year supply of Bravecto from Crocker Vet in Morris, as well as a free pet day spa package from Love Fur Dogs pet grooming in Henryetta.
The event will be part of a day full of activities, including the First Family Credit Union Car Show, the Beard & Mustache Competition and the Pin-Up Contest.

The celebration continues on Sunday, Aug. 31, with the 9th Annual Butch Sullivan “Love Wins” Horseshoe Tournament at Endtime Revival Church, located six miles south of Henryetta on 10th Street (113186 Hwy 124 in Weleetka).
Registration for doubles runs from 12-1:15 p.m., with singles sign-ups open until 2:45 p.m. The doubles tournament begins at 1:30 p.m., followed immediately by singles play. Open to participants age 8 and up, the $10 per person entry fee benefits Endtime Revival Youth Ministries.
The site offers shaded seating, basketball, volleyball, a playground, air-conditioned restrooms and a concession stand featuring burgers, chicken strips, fries, nachos, drinks and more. For details, call Lester Sullivan at 918-716-8119.
On Monday, Sept. 1, the spotlight shifts to the 2nd Annual M.I.O. Schwab Meat Co. Hot Dog Eating Contest at Gazebo Park, starting at 1 p.m., immediately following the Labor Day Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. through downtown Henryetta.
Competitors will vie for a $500 grand prize, with an additional $100 awarded to the “Most Spirited” contestant. Registration is available at www.iLUVFord.com or onsite before the contest begins.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy live music, the Jim Shoulder Living Legends Rodeo, vendor booths, food trucks, and Henryetta’s iconic Labor Day Parade on Monday morning – a tradition that draws crowds from across the region.
From costumed pets to competitive horseshoe pitching and high-energy eating contests, Henryetta’s Labor Day Celebration offers a packed schedule of family-friendly events that promise something for everyone.
