Jam-packed Labor Day Celebration approaches

From rodeos to parades, ice cream competitions to baby races, Henryetta is pulling out all the stops for its much-anticipated Labor Day Celebration, taking place from Aug. 28 through Sept. 1. This week-long extravaganza will feature a mix of family friendly fun, music, contests and community spirit that locals and visitors alike won’t want to miss.

Carnival on Main

The celebration kicks off with a carnival running Aug. 28 – Sept. 1 on E. Main Street. Operating from 6-10 p.m. on weekdays and 6-11 p.m. on weekends, bracelets will be available nightly for $30, with both bracelets and tickets sold onsite.

— Pageants to Start It Off

On Friday, Aug. 23, early activities include:

• 10 a.m. – Labor Day Baby Pageant (Ages 0-3) at Henryetta High School Auditorium

• 7 p.m. – Miss Labor Day Pageant (Ages 4-20), also at the HHS Auditorium — Cars, Contests & Cornhole Saturday, Aug. 30

Saturday, Aug. 30, is action-packed from morning to night:

• 8 a.m. – Registration opens for the First Family FCU 13th Annual Car and Bike Show on W. Main Street ($10 registration)

• 10 a.m. – Smokin’ Hot Pinup Contest (Free entry) at Briefcase Event Center

• 11 a.m. – Return of the crowd-favorite Beard & ’Stache Competition (Free entry)

• 12:30 p.m. – Vets for Pets Costume Contest, sponsored by VFW Auxiliary Post 539

• 3 p.m. – Jared Been Memorial Cornhole Tournament, hosted by Henryetta Lions Club, begins at the HHS Gymnasium, 1800 Troy Aikman Dr., with cash prizes up for grabs

• 6 p.m. – Gospel Concert at Henryetta First Baptist (420 W. Trudgeon), featuring The Williamsons, Southern SONlight, Chris Hester, Donna Kilmurray and Brandon Baumgarten

• 8 p.m. – The legendary 32nd Annual Jim Shoulders Living Legends PRCA Rodeo begins at Nichols Park, preceded by Mutton Bustin’ at 6:30 p.m. ($12 adults, $6 kids ages 6-12) — Sunday, Aug. 31

Another day of thrilling events awaits Sunday, Aug. 31:

• 9 a.m. – PRCA Steer Roping at Nichols Park (Admission $10)

• 9:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. – Birdie Derby Disc Golf Tournament at Nichols Park (Register by Aug. 29 at discgolfscene. com)

• 12 p.m. – Cornhole tournament continues at HHS Gym (Registration at 10:30 a.m.)

• 1:30 p.m. – 8th Annual Love Wins Horseshoe Tournament (Ages 10+) at Nichols Park ($15 entry fee)

• 6 p.m. – Gates open at the Henryetta Football Field for evening festivities: – Live music by The Bo Posey Band – Baby Crawling Contest – Parade Awards Presentation – Fireworks Show at dark, presented by Hwy 62 Fireworks — Monday, Sept. 1 – The Grand Finale

Labor Day itself is packed with classic small-town charm and excitement:

• 9 a.m. – Live music begins downtown

• 10 a.m. – The Henryetta Labor Day Parade makes its way down Main Street

• 11:30 a.m. – BBQ Lunch at the Civic Center, hosted by the Okmulgee County Democratic Party ($5 per plate)

• Immediately Following the Parade: – Terrapin Race, Frog Hopping Contest, and Fish Scramble on S. 6th Street – Homemade Ice Cream Competition sponsored by the Rotary Club of Henryetta at Pocket Park (Cash prizes!) – email henryettarotary@gmail.com for entry

•-Labor Day Fun in the Sun at the Church of the Nazarene (7th & Trudgeon) with free bounce houses, water slides, food and games

• 1:30 p.m. (New Time) – Ruby Gooden Labor Day Games at the Gazebo Park (new location, S. 4th Street) – With activities for all ages and interests – from rodeo fans and car enthusiasts to families and foodies – Henryetta’s Labor Day Celebration is shaping up to be one of the biggest community events of the year.

Event organizers encourage early registration for contests like the beard competition, disc golf tournament and cornhole tournament. More information is available on Facebook, Scoreholio and Disc-GolfScene.com.
