The Henryetta Lions Club held its most recent meeting on June 26 at The Shack 2.0, welcoming members and guests for a lively afternoon of fellowship, updates and moments that reflected the spirit of service that defines the club.
Among those in attendance were dedicated club members Kimberly Stoy, Bill Goodner, Mylena Poulton, TJ Mordecai, Amber Mordecai, Bob Fowler, Colleen Fowler, Angela Nelson, Lindsey McKinney, Ashley Morris, Corbet Witham, Shirley McCowan Bussey and Nita Robertson. The meeting also welcomed guest Jimmie Bussey, who joined in the club’s ongoing commitment to civic engagement and support for the local community.
Sunshine Reports were shared to highlight joyful milestones and good news among members. Lion Shirley McCowan Bussey excitedly announced plans for a visit and dinner with her grandson, where chicken and okra would be the main course.
Lions Bob and Colleen Fowler were warmly congratulated on celebrating their 47th wedding anniversary, and Lion Corbet Witham shared the joyous news that he and his wife Kim are expecting their sixth child.
In a special recognition, Lion Damian was acknowledged for receiving a scholarship at the All-Star Football Game, courtesy of the Oklahoma Eight-Man Football Coaches Association and an Electric Cooperative – a proud moment for the club and the young recipient alike.
As Tail Twister, Lion Shirley kept the room energized with Fourth of July-themed trivia, bringing patriotic fun to the meeting just ahead of Independence Day festivities.
During the business portion of the meeting, members unanimously approved the minutes from the June 12 meeting following a motion by Lion Bob and a second from Lion TJ.
One of the most moving moments of the meeting came when Lion Bill Goodner shared the story of his late brother’s passing. In a touching tribute, his family has chosen to have memorial donations sent to the Henryetta Lions Club’s Christmas Baskets program. Lion Bill spoke emotionally about how his own family was once a recipient of the baskets during his childhood, expressing deep gratitude and emphasizing how the club’s generosity helped his family during difficult times.
The meeting concluded with announcements about upcoming volunteer opportunities and community events. Volunteers are needed for Lions Bingo for Sight on Friday, July 5 at 3 p.m. at The Briefcase. The next regular meeting will be held Saturday, July 12, followed by the annual Fireworks Celebration at Nichols Park that evening. Additional events include the Lions Cabinet Meeting in Okmulgee on July 21, and another Cabinet Meeting in Henryetta set for Aug. 16. The club also plans a Cornhole Tournament for Aug. 30-31.
