By PATRICK FORD Editor,

It was a weekend filled with standout performances, high-scoring games and hard-fought battles for several Okmulgee County baseball and softball teams. The Henryetta Knights faced off against the Jones Longhorns in a two-game series, while the Preston Lady Pirates and Pirates each picked up strong wins over Tishomingo and Ketchum, respectively.

--- Knights fall in back-to-back battles with Jones The Henryetta Knights couldn’t find their rhythm at the plate across two games against the Jones Longhorns, falling 5-0 on Thursday and 7-2 on Friday.

In Thursday’s opener, Jones pitcher Jose Rojas threw a complete-game shutout, striking out five and allowing just three hits. Henryetta’s Hunter Bowdler pitched all seven innings, surrendering five runs on 11 hits while striking out four. Boston Morris, Connor Matlock and Bowdler each managed a hit for the Knights, but the team couldn’t capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Jones’ Cooper Jones led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. The Longhorns tallied 11 hits in the win and played clean defense, turning two double plays and committing no errors.

On Friday, Henryetta took a brief 1-0 lead in the third inning after Blaze Hill delivered an RBI double. However, Jones responded quickly and pulled ahead for good with a 3-run fifth inning and added insurance runs late.

Boston Morris started for the Knights and struck out five over 5.1 innings, allowing three runs. Mavrix Randleman threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Morris led the Knights with a 2-for-4 performance, while Hill and Hunter Bowdler each recorded RBIs. James Joslin stole two bases, and the defense committed no errors. Randleman was sharp at third, collecting six defensive plays.

For Jones, Luke DeBusk, Jack Mendoza and Nash Pinto each had two hits and two RBIs. The Longhorns again turned two double plays and finished with no defensive miscues.

--- Lady Pirates unleash offensive barrage against Tishomingo The Preston Lady Pirates powered past the Tishomingo Lady Indians 19-9 on Friday behind an electrifying performance from Kynlee Martin, who blasted three home runs and drove in six runs.

Martin homered in the second, third and fifth innings, while Na’Braijhanae Phillips added a grand slam during a seven-run second inning that broke the game open.

The Lady Pirates amassed 20 hits in total. Kristin Holuby doubled and drove in a run, and Taylan Starr added a two-run homer in the sixth. Holuby pitched all six innings for Preston, giving up nine runs (five earned) and striking out none.

--- Pirates’ bottom of the lineup secures win over Ketchum The Preston Pirates used timely hitting from the bottom of the lineup to defeat the Ketchum Warriors 5-3 on Friday. Pepper Gallup, Jace Basquez and Braxton Clarkson combined for five hits and two RBIs, helping Preston overcome an early deficit. After falling behind 1-0, Preston rallied with three runs in the bottom of the first, capped by a steal of home by Kaden Dean. The Pirates added two more in the third on RBI singles from Gallup and Basquez.

Hunter McElhannon earned the win, striking out eight while giving up three runs across six innings. Jayden Herring closed the game and picked up the save.
