Knights storm back in extras to stun Weleetka, 7-6
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

In a thrilling comeback marked by timely hitting, aggressive base running and clutch pitching, the Henryetta Knights rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat the Weleetka Outlaws 7-6 in extra innings Monday evening.

Trailing 5-1 after three innings and down to their final outs late in regulation, the Knights clawed their way back with a gritty performance that culminated in a go-ahead single from Blaze Hill in the top of the eighth. The hit drove in two runs and proved to be the decisive blow in the contest.

--- Early Offense from Weleetka

The Outlaws struck first in the bottom of the opening frame. After a leadoff single, Weleetka’s Drake laced a sharp single to center, bringing in the game’s first run. Henryetta quickly answered in the top of the second, when Landen Jones alertly stole home to tie it 1-1, showcasing the Knights’ aggressive base-running strategy.

Weleetka seized momentum in the third. Drake notched his second RBI of the evening on another single, then Bales followed with a two-run knock to cap a four-run inning. The Outlaws looked poised to pull away, holding a 5-1 advantage entering the fourth.

--- The Comeback Begins

But the Knights refused to fold. In the top of the fifth, Hunter Bowdler came through with a run-scoring single to cut the deficit to three. Mavrix Randleman added a sacrifice fly, and a well-placed lineout by James Joslin plated another, tying the game at 5-5 and shifting the momentum firmly to Henryetta’s dugout.

After a scoreless sixth and seventh, the Knights delivered the final blow in the eighth. With runners in scoring position, Blaze Hill stepped to the plate and lined a base hit that brought in two key runs, giving Henryetta a 7-5 lead.

Weleetka managed to scratch one run across in the bottom of the frame, but Bowdler shut the door, stranding the tying run on base to seal the victory.

Bowdler was masterful in relief, pitching five innings and allowing just two hits and one run while striking out three and walking two. Starter Mavrix Randleman handled the first three innings, giving up five runs on six hits while striking out three.

Sheneman took the loss for Weleetka after a solid start, surrendering five runs (four earned) over 4.2 innings with three strikeouts and five walks.

--- Offensive Leaders

Blaze Hill’s two-RBI single in extra innings was the highlight of the night. Hill finished 1-for-4 at the plate with the game-winning hit. Bowdler, Jones, Matlock, Joslin and Hill each tallied one hit for Henryetta. Joslin led the team on the basepaths with two stolen bags, while Jones added one of his own- part of a six-steal effort by the Knights.

Boston Morris showed patience at the plate, drawing three of the team’s eight total walks.

Drake led Weleetka offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bales contributed a hit and two RBIs and added two stolen bases for the Outlaws, who finished the game with four steals.

--- Top Plays of the Game

• Landen Jones’ Steal of Home: A daring swipe of home plate in the second inning ignited Henryetta’s offense.

• Fifth-Inning Rally: Three-run inning sparked by key situational hitting from Bowdler, Randleman and Joslin.

• Blaze Hill’s Go-Ahead Hit: The eighth-inning 2-RBI single sealed the deal in dramatic fashion.

• Hunter Bowdler’s Relief Effort: Five innings of strong relief work to earn the win and preserve the comeback.

- Henryetta returned to action yesterday as they traveled to Yukon for the 3A Baseball Regional. Henryetta was set to take on Little Axe and Jones.
