Preston sweeps Mounds in recent action

Kristin Holuby put on a show at the plate Monday night, blasting two home runs and driving in four runs as the Preston Lady Pirates overpowered the Mounds Eagles 32-3 in a dominant road victory.

Holuby’s first home run, a two-run shot to left field, came in the second inning as part of Preston’s 20-run explosion. She later added a solo homer in the same inning, helping solidify the Lady Pirates’ offensive outburst.

Preston wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning, with Josie Cope doubling to center field to score one run and an Eagles error allowing another to cross the plate.

Mounds briefly held a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first after Abby Cloud’s home run to center field. However, Preston’s relentless offense quickly regained control.

The Lady Pirates’ monster second inning saw contributions from nearly the entire lineup. Caris Tecumseh homered to right field, Aiyana Beaver singled in a run, and Taylan Starr doubled in two runs. Holuby’s first home run brought in two, Olivia Beaver drew a bases-loaded walk, and errors allowed multiple runs to score. Tecumseh later singled in two more, followed by Starr’s two-run homer to left field.

Preston wasn’t done, adding 10 more runs in the third inning on hits from Holuby, Na’Braijhanae Phillips, Cope, Kynlee Martin, Tecumseh and Sophia Bunner. Walks drawn by Ashleigh Hurt and Nevaeh Kelley further padded the lead.

Holuby also delivered in the circle, earning the win with three innings of work. She allowed two hits and three runs (two earned) while walking four.

Preston collected 24 hits in the game, led by Tecumseh’s six RBIs on a 4-for-4 performance. Multiple players contributed, including Phillips, Cope, Hurt, Holuby, Bunner and Starr, who all had multihit games.

Olivia Beaver provided the fireworks in Tuesday’s rematch, driving in four runs on two hits as the Preston Lady Pirates rolled past the Mounds Eagles 20-0 at Jim Waller Sports Complex.

Beaver’s three-run homer in the first inning set the tone for the Lady Pirates, who jumped out to a commanding lead. Ashleigh Hurt’s bases-clearing triple and Taylan Starr’s two-run homer added to the first-inning barrage.

Preston didn’t let up in the second, adding 10 more runs. Beaver contributed again with an RBI single, followed by a three-run homer from Caris Tecumseh and a two-run blast from Na’Braijhanae Phillips.

Kristin Holuby earned her second win in as many days, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing no hits.

Preston accumulated 12 hits in total, with Beaver, Kynlee Martin, and Starr each recording two.

The Lady Pirates now shift their focus to a home matchup against Moss on Friday.
