HPS board holds meeting

The Henryetta Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, at the Board of Education Office. The agenda covered a variety of key issues, including personnel decisions, financial matters, and upcoming bond projects.

Various department reports were presented, including updates from:

• HESA & HEA

• Superintendent – First steps of the CNG station are underway; roofing project is scheduled to begin Friday. Superintendent Jason Price gave updates on academics, sports and the beginning of Spring sports. Price has met with various directors of the district along with community groups.

• Principals Reports – It’s been awesome. — Key Discussions & Actions Bond-Related Employment The board discussed and took action on hiring professionals to manage projects associated with an upcoming bond. This included:

• Employing an Architect for the bond project Scott Chasteen of Principle Design, LLC

• Employing a Construction Manager to oversee developments – Travis Beshears of Beshears Construction of Fort Smith, Ark.

• District Calendar Approval – The board reviewed and approved the 2025-2026 District Calendar.

— Financial & Fundraising Matters

• Approving encumbrances and financial reports for the 2024-25 school year.

• Approving fundraiser requests for the 2024-25 school year.

— Personnel Matters

The board discussed and took action on employing the following individuals for the 2025-2026 school year:

• Bunyan Johnson

• Jayme Matlock

• Roger Williams

• Kathy Bailey — Contracts & Agreements

The board addressed multiple agreements for the upcoming school years:

• Approved the 2025-26 audit contract and engagement letter with Bledsoe, Hewett & Gullekson.

• Approved a contract with Barlow Education Management Services for 2025-26.

• Approved concurrent agreement. — Bond Sale Discussions

The board focused on finalizing financial arrangements for a significant school district bond:

• Authorized the appointment of an acting President or Clerk to execute documents related to setting the maturities, date, time, and place of the bond sale.

• Approved a resolution for the $1,480,000 Taxable General Obligation Combined Purpose Bonds, designating bond counsel for its issuance.

Under New Business, the board approved the hiring of Shayna Silkwood, David Henderson and Gary Greenfield.
