County wrestlers shine in Sallisaw

The 64th Annual Paul Post Invitational brought top-tier wrestling competition to Sallisaw, with 26 teams from Oklahoma and Arkansas battling for supremacy on the mats. Marlow emerged victorious in the team standings, securing the championship with an impressive 477.5 points. Guthrie followed in second place with 399.5 points, while Fort Gibson finished a close third with 397.5 points.

• Glenpool – 290.5 – Several wrestlers from Okmulgee County made notable appearances at the tournament, with competitors from Dewar and Henryetta securing placements in their respective weight classes.

Henryetta’s Tayler Hamric and Jordyn Miller secured impressive third-place finishes, showcasing their strength and technique in their respective weight classes. Jason Powders also delivered a strong performance, capturing fifth place at 165 lbs. Dewar’s Cash Faulkner rounded out the Okmulgee County representatives, finishing sixth at 138 lbs.

Jason improves to 29-8 on the season and is currently ranked 8th in 3A at 165.

Tayler improves to 31-2 on the season and is currently ranked #1 in 3A.

Jordyn improves to 30-3 on the season and is currently ranked #1 in 3A.

Henryetta High School now has two of the top ranked Oklahoma wrestlers in their respective weight classes and another ranked 8th in one of the toughest weight divisions.

• Cash Faulkner – Dewar, Senior – 6th Place (138 lbs) 5th Place Match: Luke Lyons (Guthrie, Jr.) defeated Cash Faulkner (Dewar, Sr.) by fall at 5:59 (10-4 decision).

• Jason Powders – Henryetta, Senior – 5th Place (165 lbs) 5th Place Match: Jason Powders (Henryetta, Sr.) defeated Brelynn Macomb (Fort Gibson, Sr.) by fall at 1:53.

• Tayler Hamric – Henryetta, Senior – 3rd Place (190 lbs) 3rd Place Match: Tayler Hamric (Henryetta, Sr.) defeated Luke Mitchell (Pawnee, Sr.) by major decision (12-1).

• Jordyn Miller – Henryetta, Senior – 3rd Place (285 lbs) 3rd Place Match: Jordyn Miller (Henryetta, Sr.) defeated Xavier Hernandez (Grove, Jr.) by decision (10-4).

– Local wrestlers will now turn their focus to upcoming dual meets and regional qualifiers as they aim for spots in the OSSAA State Wrestling Championships.
