Winter Weather approaches
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR,

A strong winter storm is poised to impact southeastern Oklahoma, parts of Texas, and southwestern Arkansas from Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning. Residents in Okmulgee County and surrounding areas should prepare for possible winter precipitation, including snow, as a Winter Storm Watch is expected to go into effect for portions of southeastern Oklahoma.

— Storm Details

• Timing: The storm system will begin impacting the area Thursday afternoon, intensifying overnight, and exiting early Friday.

• Affected Areas: Southeastern Oklahoma is the primary focus for significant snowfall, with projections showing higher accumulations south of the Tulsa metro. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and parts of North Texas are also under watches, with potential sleet and snow.

• Okmulgee County Outlook: According to Emergency Management Director Jeffrey Moore, the county could see 1-3 inches of snow, depending on the storm’s final track. Moore advises residents to stay informed, as any northward or southward shift in the storm’s path could change the forecast.

— Current Storm Position

The system, originating from southern Nevada, is moving southward across the Mexican Plateau. It will advance eastward on Wednesday night, bringing significant moisture to Texas and southern Oklahoma, where colder temperatures support mostly snow development.

— Local Weather Forecast

• Wednesday: Sunny with a high near 32°F; light north winds around 5 mph. Overnight low: 17°F.

• Thursday: Partly sunny with a high near 38°F; south wind around 5 mph. Chance of snow Thursday night (30%), low of 25°F.

• Friday: Partly cloudy with a mix of sun and clouds, high near 38°F; calm winds shifting northwest.

— Pro Tips for Residents

• Layer Up: Temperatures will remain cold throughout the week, with wind chills making it feel even brisker.

• Monitor Travel Plans: If snow develops Thursday night, roads could become slick. Stay updated on road conditions and the latest forecasts.

• Stay Informed: Follow updates from local authorities, including Okmulgee County Emergency Management, for the latest on storm developments.

This winter weather system could bring travel challenges and chilly conditions, so plan accordingly and stay safe.
