OCCJA Executive Director appointed to ACA role

The Okmulgee County Criminal Justice Authority (OCCJA) is proud to announce that Executive Director Shannon T. Clark has been elected by his peers to serve as one of the esteemed Commissioners on Accreditation for Corrections in the American Correctional Association (ACA). Clark’s role will focus on adult detention, making him the only elected official representing Oklahoma on the ACA Commission.

This prestigious appointment not only honors Director Clark’s remarkable contributions to the field of detention but also exemplifies his dedication to promoting industry-wide excellence and ethical standards. In addition to his role as Executive Director of OCCJA, Director Clark will participate in two annual conferences, where he will collaborate with his colleagues to explore and discuss approaches to improving adult detention practices.

The ACA, one of the most revered institutions in the corrections field, serves as a beacon for professionalism, integrity, and the advancement of correctional practices nationwide. The organization’s accreditation program stands as the gold standard for detention facility evaluation, aiming to ensure the highest levels of safety, accountability, and effectiveness. To be elected as a Commissioner on Accreditation is to be entrusted with the profound responsibility of guiding the accreditation process for facilities across the nation.

Director Clark’s election by his peers underscores the respect and admiration he commands among his colleagues in detention. He has been a transformative figure at OCCJA, tirelessly advocating improvements in facility standards, staff training, and inmate integration into self-reflection. His commitment to upholding the highest standards of care and accountability has not only elevated OCCJA but has set an inspiring example for other organizations in the detention sector. With this new role, Director Clark will collaborate closely with fellow commissioners to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in detention. He will be instrumental in furthering ACA’s mission to foster excellence within the detention field, enhance public safety, and promote a culture of continuous improvement. The ACA’s focus on the “Story of Us” highlights the importance of shared narratives and experiences across correctional institutions nationwide, and Director Clark’s wealth of experience and innovative perspective will be invaluable to this mission.

The OCCJA Board of Trustees, staff, and the Okmulgee County leaders endorse and commend Director Clark on this significant achievement. His election to this influential role is a testament to his enduring dedication and unwavering commitment to his profession, and it represents a significant milestone not only for him personally but for the entire OCCJA team. Clark will represent the OCCJA, Okmulgee County, and the State of Oklahoma twice a year while collaborating with detention professionals from across the United States.

As Director Clark embarks on this new endeavor, we look forward to the positive impact his leadership will bring, both locally and on a national scale, as he continues to champion meaningful advancements in the field of detention.
