City Council approves requests

The Henryetta City Council convened on Dec. 17, at the Civic Center, with Councilmember Steve Sanford presiding in the absence of Mayor Michael Dickey. Councilmembers Jana Cluck and Vernon VanMeter were present, while Jennifer Munholland was absent. The meeting addressed a wide range of community matters, from financial approvals to future events and property abatements.

— Agenda Highlights & Votes

• Consent Agenda – The council unanimously approved financial reports, November meeting minutes, and claims for the month of November 2024.

• Bank of Oklahoma Payment – Approved the payment of $40,023.88 for the 2015 Note Series.

• Utility Payment – Authorized the payment of $22,198.02 to AEP/PSO.

• Municipal Election Resolution – Adopted Resolution No. 1310, scheduling a nonpartisan general municipal election and setting qualifications for candidates.

• Housing Authority Tax Waiver – Approved a waiver for accrued payments in lieu of taxes totaling $16,414.27 for fiscal years 2022 and 2023.

• Library Roof Replacement – Approved a $41,780 bid from Best Quality Roofing and Construction for the Henryetta Library roof replacement, to be funded through insurance claims.

• Nichols Park Events – Approved multiple requests for events at Nichols Park in 2025, including: – AEB’s Red, White & Q Barbecue Cook-Off (Oct. 3-4) – Henryetta Schools’ cross-country tournaments (Sept. 6, Oct. 18 & Oct. 25) – Vintage Motorcycle Racing (Nov. 7-9) – Roy Madden Spring Rodeo (June 6-7) – Disc golf tournaments throughout the year March 1, 2025, Rotary Open; April 19, 2025, Henryetta Shootout; Nov. 15, 16 and 22, 23 Oklahoma State Championship; Dec. 13, 2025, Bigfoot Finale

– The council also approved Henryetta Firefighters Local #2788 contract for Fiscal Year 2024-2025.

City Manager David Ballard presented updates on city projects and initiatives:

• The completion of a booster station that will enhance water distribution until the new water tower is operational in 2025.

• A successful cleanup day where 12 roll-offs were utilized.

• A positive IRS audit, the first since 1976, affirming the city’s financial practices.

— Closing Comments & Community Engagement During council comments, members reflected on 2024 achievements and encouraged residents to consider running for office in upcoming elections. The council also highlighted efforts to improve animal control practices, including increased transparency and efforts to re-home animals.

During the session of the Henryetta Municipal Authority, the members approved the following items:

• Financial Reports for November, 2024.

• Minutes of meeting held in November, 2024.

• Claims for the month of November, 2024.

• Payment to OWRB (ORF-08-0015-DW) in the amount of $37,962.14 for monthly payment.
