Weleetka Outlaws claim Class B-II State Championship

The Weleetka Outlaws capped a perfect season with a resounding 54-12 victory over the Seiling Wildcats in the Class B-II State Championship game Thursday night. It was a historic moment for the Outlaws, who earned their third state title in school history and their first since 2004. Here are the key highlights from the game:

Drake Brothers Shine as Players of the Game The dynamic duo of Isaiah and Isaac Drake propelled Weleetka’s offense to an explosive 606 total yards.

• Isaiah Drake, a junior quarterback, displayed his versatility by completing 12 of 25 passes for 263 yards and three touchdowns. He also carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and a rushing touchdown.

• Isaac Drake, his senior brother, delivered a stunning all-around performance. He rushed for 206 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, caught four passes for 29 yards, and even threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah. On defense, Isaac recorded nine tackles, three tackles for loss, and a sack, showcasing his dominance on both sides of the ball.

— Game-Changing Moment: A 75-Yard Statement Weleetka set the tone on their very first offensive snap. Isaiah Drake launched a deep pass to junior receiver Bryant Stites, who outpaced Seiling’s defense for a 75-yard touchdown. The electric play silenced the Wildcats early and gave the Outlaws all the momentum they needed to dominate the rest of the game.

— Bryant Stites’ Standout Performance

Stites emerged as a pivotal weapon for the Outlaws. He hauled in six receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-opening score. On defense, Stites was equally impactful with nine tackles and a sack, solidifying his role as a twoway force for Weleetka.

— A Perfect Season for the Outlaws

The victory capped an undefeated 14-0 season for Weleetka, who ended Seiling’s impressive 12-2 campaign in decisive fashion. The win not only marked a triumphant return to championship glory but also highlighted the Outlaws’ balanced attack and defensive tenacity.

With Isaiah Drake returning next year as a junior quarterback, the future looks bright for the Outlaws. While the team will bid farewell to senior stars like Isaac Drake, the legacy of this championship team will undoubtedly inspire future generations of Weleetka athletes.

This title marks a 20-year milestone for the Outlaws, who now hold three state championships in their storied history. It was a night to remember for the Weleetka faithful and a testament to the teamwork, talent, and determination that defines championship football.

Tristan Garringer is the head coach of the Weleetka Outlaws varsity football team. His assistant coaches are Chris Carter, Tony Hawkins and J. Loggins.
