Wilson captures district crown
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR,

The Wilson Tigers varsity football team ended their regular season in dominant fashion, securing the Class B-II District Championship with a 70-20 victory over Wesleyan Christian at home on Nov. 8. The Tigers displayed their offensive power and defensive resilience, capping off a strong season with a one-sided win and adding to their impressive list of achievements this year. Their victory over Wesleyan Christian marked an emphatic close to a season full of highlights and gave the team strong momentum heading into the playoffs.

The Tigers kicked off the season on Sept. 6 with a decisive 42-24 win over Strother, setting the tone for their undefeated home record. They followed this up with a 52-12 win against Savanna on Sept. 13, showing early on that they had a solid offense and a firm grip on defense. Their road games also proved successful, as they blanked Watts 54-0 on Sept. 20.

While the Tigers encountered a setback against Weleetka on Sept. 27 with a 64-26 loss, it served as a learning experience that motivated the team to tighten their defense and refine their strategy. From there, the Tigers rebounded, shutting out Webbers Falls 46-0 on Oct. 10, and maintaining a strong defensive stance throughout their district games. They delivered three consecutive shutout wins over Arkoma, Gans and Copan with scores of 50-0, 48-0 and 48-0, respectively.

Their final regular-season game was a thrilling 70-20 victory over Wesleyan Christian, clinching the district title and securing their spot in the playoffs. The Tigers finished the season with an impressive 8-1 record, with their only loss to Weleetka. Their powerful offensive efforts have kept fans on their feet, while their defense, led by a disciplined and committed lineup, recorded five shutouts over the course of the season.

Now, the Tigers are focused on their playoff journey. This Friday, Nov. 15, they will host the Davenport Bulldogs (3-7) in the first round of the playoffs at Wilson High School. With the district championship behind them, the Tigers are eager to continue their successful season and advance deeper into the playoffs.

As they prepare for the high-stakes games ahead, the Wilson Tigers have a season of achievements to look back on and a strong, championship- winning foundation to build upon in their quest for postseason glory.
