Vian overpowers Morris in 59-0 shutout
By JIM WEBER CSSNOK.COM,

It took exactly 48 seconds for the Vian Wolverines (9-0) to score their first touchdown en route to a 59-0 blowout of the Morris Eagles.

Masyn Wright opened the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage less than a minute into the game.

Just two minutes later on the Wolverines second possession, it was Cash Trammel to Jacob Brannick for a 34-yard touchdown toss. After the Mikaya Mendoza extra point, it was quickly 14-0 Vian.

The third Wolverines possession led to Wright’s second touchdown of the night on a 36-yard touchdown run and it was 21-0 Vian midway through the opening period.

Two minutes later it was Draighton Fletcher from 22-yards out with another touchdown run to put the Wolverines up by 28 points with 4 minutes still remaining in the opening quarter.

A mishandled kickoff by the Eagles led to a Morris safety to make it 30–0, and just one minute later it was Fletcher with his second of the night from the 5 yard line.

The Purple gang wasn’t finished scoring yet in the opening quarter. With less than a minute on the clock Trammel and Brannick hooked up again, this time from the 15 yard line for the pair’s second scoring play of the game.

With the score now 44-Zip, and still in the first quarter, the teams agreed to a running clock for the rest of the contest.

In the second, with five minutes remaining in the half, Fletcher broke over the right side for a 51-yard touchdown run, his third of the game, and a mishandled snap on the extra point turned into a 2-point conversion on a Trammel to Riley Ellis toss into the end zone to give the Wolverines a 52-0 lead at the half.

With most of the Vian starts sitting out the remainder of the game, and the Eagles finally mounting a drive that took them to the Vian 1 yard line, on a fourth down play they coughed up the ball and a Nathan Cheater recovery took the ball out to the 27 yard line with 4 minutes remaining.

The final Wolverines score came from Dante Glass on an 80-yard touchdown reception. With the Mendoza extra point that capped the scoring at 59-0 and gave Vian their ninth win of the season.

The Eagles return home to face Wilburton next week in their season finally with both teams winless at 0-9. Vian will end the regular season at home next week against Valliant, who are currently 5-4 and in third place in 2A II.
