Dragons dominate Quinton in 53-6 victory
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR,

The Dewar Dragons secured a commanding 53-6 win over the Quinton Savages on Friday night in a league matchup that showcased their impressive offensive and defensive prowess. With this victory, the Dragons improved their record to 7-1, positioning them strongly for their upcoming B-I District 4 (8-Man) game against the Keota Lions, who currently stand at 6-2. Dewar will be looking to extend their momentum after this decisive win.

The Dragons established control early in the first quarter, launching their offense with a rushing touchdown by player Keelan Berryat the 9:24 mark. The two-point conversion, executed by JoJo Waters, brought Dewar to an 8-0 lead. Shortly after, Dewar capitalized on a turnover when Quinton’s Cash Hobbs threw an interception to Dewar’s Ben Atoigue, setting up another scoring opportunity. Dewar’s Braelin Lewis rushed for another touchdown, followed by another successful two-point conversion by JoJo Waters, bringing the score to 16-0.

The Dragons’ momentum continued when they recovered a fumble on the kickoff, putting their offense back in action quickly. A few plays later, Dewar’s quarterback, Peyton Kilhoffer, connected with Ben Atoigue for a touchdown pass at the 6:04 mark, and a two-point pass from Kilhoffer to Berry stretched the lead to 24-0. Despite a punt from Quinton, Dewar answered with yet another rushing touchdown from Braelin Lewis at 4:47. This time, Bentley Thrall secured the PAT, moving the Dragons up to a dominant 31-0 lead.

Special teams further showcased Dewar’s control over the game. Quinton’s attempt to punt was met with a fierce return by Cash Faulkner, who returned it all the way for a touchdown at 2:14, with JoJo Waters converting the two-point play to bring the score to 39-0 at the end of the first quarter.

As the game moved into the second quarter, Dewar’s defense shone by recovering a fumble on fourth down and keeping Quinton’s offense from making any advances. Despite missing a field goal attempt by Bentley Thrall, the Dragons kept pressing, with Bentley Thrall soon finding the end zone on a quarterback run at 5:23, lifting the Dragons to a 45-0 advantage after the missed twopoint conversion.

Quinton managed to score with just over five minutes left in the half, thanks to Trentyn Shamblin’s impressive punt return for a touchdown. However, Dewar swiftly answered, as Cash Faulkner returned the ensuing kickoff for another touchdown, followed by a successful two-point run by Malachi Brown to bring the score to 53-6. Dewar’s Andrew Paden recovered a Quinton fumble with only ten seconds left, effectively sealing the game.

Due to the 45-point rule applied after halftime in the district, the game concluded early, giving Dewar a decisive 53-6 victory. With this win, the Dragons are riding high as they prepare for their faceoff against the Keota Lions, aiming to continue their winning streak and fortify their standing in the district.
