Pirates shut out Moss

In a home matchup on Monday, the Preston Pirates baseball team defeated the Moss Pirates with a commanding 4-0 victory. The game, marked by stellar pitching and strategic hitting, showcased Preston’s dominance on both sides of the diamond.

Preston seized an early lead in the top of the third inning when Bradley Winford’s single, coupled with a crucial error by Moss, allowed them to plate their first run. This early advantage set the tone for the rest of the game.

Jayden Herring took the mound as the starting pitcher for Preston, delivering a standout performance. Over six solid innings, Herring held Moss to just two hits while striking out four batters and issuing three walks, effectively neutralizing Moss’s offensive threats.

On the opposite side, Michael Simrell start- ed on the hill for Moss Pirates, pitching for three innings. Despite yielding only three hits and one earned run, Simrell faced challenges against Preston’s disciplined lineup, which capitalized on their scoring opportunities.

Preston Pirates’ bullpen remained staunch throughout the game, with Kaden Dean stepping in for one inning of scoreless relief. Dean’s sharp pitching included three strikeouts and no hits allowed, further solidifying Preston’s defensive strategy.

Offensively, Bradley Winford shone brightly for Preston, going 2-for-2 at the plate and driving in two crucial runs. Winford’s contributions at key moments underscored Preston’s effective offensive execution. Pepper Gallup’s patience also paid off with three walks, contributing to Preston’s overall strategy of working counts and forcing Moss pitchers into difficult situations.

Defensively, Preston Pirates displayed impeccable fielding, committing zero errors throughout the game. Hunter McElhannon showcased his defensive prowess with a team-leading eight chances, contributing to Preston’s shutout victory.

For Moss Pirates, Levi Foster and Heston Nolen each managed a hit, but their efforts were ultimately overshadowed by Preston’s cohesive performance.

Looking ahead, the Preston Pirates are set to face off against the Latta Panthers on Friday, aiming to carry forward their momentum from this pivotal win.

As the season progresses, Preston Pirates remain a team to watch, blending skillful pitching, disciplined hitting and solid defense to pursue their championship aspirations.

Preston will play the Latta Panthers Friday.
