Lady Dragons capture Wilson Softball Tournament crown
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR,

The Dewar Lady Dragons captured the championship trophy at the Wilson Softball Tournament, sponsored by Muscogee Nation Recreation, last weekend, with a win over Holdenville in the title game. Stellar pitching and clutch hitting propelled Dewar to convincing wins, showcasing their dominance as they outscored their opponents 22-2 over the last two games.

The Lady Dragons shut out Savanna in the opening game 8-0, then allowed only one score as they beat the Henryetta Lady Knights, 9-1.

— Baughman’s heroics lead Dewar past Wilson Alyssa Baughman was the star of the show in Dewar’s 10-0 triumph over the Wilson Lady Eagles, driving in four runs on two clutch doubles to lead the Lady Dragons to victory. Baughman’s first double came in the top of the first inning, plating two runs as part of a five-run opening frame for Dewar. She followed that up with another two-run double in the fourth, sealing the game in favor of the Lady Dragons.

Dewar’s early lead was also fueled by Emma Bear’s two-run double and Kinsey Maldonado’s sacrifice fly, which helped establish a 5-0 cushion by the end of the first inning. Additional runs were added in the third, courtesy of walks and hit batters, pushing Dewar’s lead to 8-0 before Baughman’s final hit.

Brooke Thomas was flawless in the pitching circle, throwing four no-hit innings while striking out three and walking just one. Her dominance, combined with solid defense from the Lady Dragons, secured the shutout victory.

In the tournament’s championship game, Dewar continued their offensive onslaught, defeating the Holdenville Lady Wolverines 12-2. The game was highlighted by an explosive eight-run second inning that gave the Lady Dragons a commanding lead.

The scoring barrage began with a single from Alyssa Baughman, followed by a walk drawn by Kyla Bear that scored another run. Bre Harvell added a two-run single, while Temperance Parker and Jaycie Berry contributed RBIs, pushing the score to 9-0 by the end of the second inning.

Harvell and Parker were key contributors at the plate, with Harvell driving in two runs on two hits and Parker going 3-for-3 with an RBI double. Jaycie Berry also had a stellar game, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

On the mound, Temperance Parker was equally impressive, allowing just one hit and no earned runs over four innings while striking out eight Holdenville batters.

The Lady Dragons are perfect on the season, with a 24-0 record. They are ranked third in Class A as of Sept. 2, behind Caddo (15-2) and Tuska (22-4).

On Monday, the Lady Dragons took down Rock Creek 4-3, followed by a matchup with the Quinton Lady Savages.
