Knights blank Panthers
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR,

Okemah was no match for the Henryetta as the visiting Golden Knights shut out the Panthers for the second year in a row, this time 58-0.

The Knights showcased an impressive all-around effort in their scoring in every quarter and making key plays on both sides of the ball.

— 1st Quarter

The Knights wasted no time establishing control, with Jason Powders finding the end zone on a 30yard touchdown run just 4:40 into the game. Although the kick failed, Henryetta held a 6-0 lead. Powders struck again with just 9 seconds left in the quarter, breaking loose for a 59-yard touchdown run, but the Knights once again missed the extra point, finishing the first quarter with a 12-0 advantage.

— 2nd Quarter

In the second quarter, the Knights added to their lead through the air, with Jayson Scott catching a 26-yard touchdown pass from Brady Norman at the 7:42 mark. The missed extra point left the score at 18-0.

The Henryetta defense soon made its presence felt when Tayler Hamric intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown just over a minute later, bringing the score to 24-0 after a botched snap on the extra point attempt.

Jason Powders added to the scoring frenzy, this time on defense, with an 82-yard interception return at 2:54. The extra point was no good, making it 30-0. Henryetta capped off the half with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Norman to William Perez, extending the lead to 36-0 at the break.

— 3rd Quarter

The Knights opened the second half with more fireworks. Gavin Williams returned the opening kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown just 15 seconds into the third quarter, with Blaze Hill successfully converting the extra point for a 43-0 lead. Powders continued his dominant night with a 28-yard touchdown run midway through the quarter, though a bad snap negated the extra point, bringing the score to 49-0. Nathan White added the final touchdown of the quarter, bursting through the defense for a 68-yard run at 4:35, with Hill converting the kick for a commanding 56-0 lead.

— 4th Quarter

The Knights added a safety late in the fourth quarter when Okemah snapped the ball out of the end zone with 3:25 remaining, sealing the 58-0 victory.

Henryetta’s mix of offensive firepower and defensive takeaways was too much for the Panthers to handle.

— Up Next

The Knights (2-0) will now prepare for their match against the Beggs Demons, who were idle this past week, following their season opening win against Verdigris, 20-10. Coach Tyler Blizzard’s squad have been preparing for Golden Knights, in their final district match.

“Beggs has a very good football team,” Knights Coach Weston McGill stated. “They are coached well and are playing disciplined football. We will have to play our best football to have a chance. We have to run the ball well, stop the run, and take care of the football.”

The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Tate Field in Beggs.
