Tony grew up in south Florida, where he attended high school and then onto the Florida School of Arts and the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, earning a graphic design degree in 1992. He married, moved to New York and began his career illustrating games, buildings, people, cards and books.
“Jimmy Zangwow’s Out-of-This-World Moon-Pie Adventure,” published in 2000, was his first book written and illustrated by him. His picture book, “The Spider and the Fly,” was a Caldecott Honor book. “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” co-authored by DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, was published in 2003-2004 and Tony was the producer when this series was filmed in 2008. This series was designed for 8-12-year-old and sold over 20 million copies. Imagination grown through family and friends helped create his characters in his children’s books.
DiTerlizzi wrote and designed “Star Wars: The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight,” published in 2014.
Tony, his wife Angela, daughter Sophia and dog Mimi live in Amherst, Mass. Angela is an author herself of children’s books.
