Despite a strong hitting performance, the Henryetta Lady Knights softball team fell short against the Red Oak Lady Eagles with a final score of 6-1 last Thursday.
The Lady Knights started strong, taking an early lead in the first inning when Kelsey Brandt’s single brought in a run. However, the momentum shifted swiftly as the Red Oak Lady Eagles responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring four runs to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Maggie Wilson’s groundout and an error contributed to the Lady Eagles’ quick offensive burst, followed by Quincee Kauk’s tworun single.
Despite collecting six hits throughout the game compared to Red Oak’s four, the Lady Knights struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Kelsey Brandt and Ailanee Hicks led Henryetta with two hits each, showing resilience at the plate.
Kelsey Brandt took the mound for Henryetta, pitching four innings and allowing four hits and six runs (one earned). She struck out one batter and walked four.
On the opposing side, Maggie Wilson pitched four and onethird innings for Red Oak, conceding five hits while keeping the Lady Knights scoreless after their initial run. Wilson struck out three batters and did not issue any walks, showcasing solid control throughout the game.
Brandt not only delivered on the mound but also shone offensively, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. For the Lady Eagles, Quincee Kauk made a significant impact from the eighth spot in the lineup, driving in two crucial runs with her timely hit. Allie Tovar led Red Oak with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, while Jaylee Branscum’s speed on the bases resulted in two stolen bases for the team.
Defensively, the Lady Eagles turned one double play to stifle any potential Lady Knights’ rallies.
The Lady Knights also faced Coalgate Friday evening, as a big third inning scored four runs, helping them to cruise to a 7-0 victory.
On Monday, Coach Aundrea Lee’s squad traveled for a doubleheader against the Vian Lady Wolverines, and then returned home on Tuesday for two games against the Spiro Lady Bulldogs.
