Labor Day 2024

There will be plenty of things to do in Henryetta and surrounding areas as the Labor Day festivities kick off. And it looks like there will be cooler temperatures ensuring an even more enjoyable weekend.

From the carnival rides (open Thursday through Monday), to the annual parade in downtown (10 a.m. Sept. 2), tons of benefit fundraisers and singing, there is no limit to how much fun you and your family can find.

Be sure to also support the Henryetta Knights football team as they kick off their season against Kellyville at 7 p.m. at Cameron Field.

In today’s issue, there is a four-page special section featuring some of the highlights of the Henryetta Labor Day Celebration. There are also a few other happenings that we want to make you aware of.

– Kicking Off All Labor Day Festivities • Aug. 29-31 from 5-10 p.m. – The VFW Auxiliary will be set up outside VFW Post 539 in assisting carnival- goers with bottled water or Gatorade for a donation. Donations will go towards bringing lots of Joy to Veterans in the nursing homes for Christmas in our community.

• Jared Deck will be performing on Labor Day at the Henryetta football field before the fireworks on Monday, Sept. 2.

• A gospel concert will be held during Labor Day weekend. What a great way to spend the evening listening to some great music in the comfort of the air conditioned church building. Jack Clifford Memorial Day Gospel Sing Saturday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 420 W. Trudgeon.

• Henryetta Knight Brigade Fundraiser – Get your Dippin’ Dots at the FFFCU 12th Annual Smokin’ Hot Car & Bike Show and Support Henryetta Knight Brigade Saturday, Aug. 31, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Main Street in front of Edward Jones Financial Advisor: Jeremy D. Roberts.

• Also, don’t forget the Beard & Stache Contest and Pinup Contest taking place Saturday morning.

• Nichols Park has one of the top Disc Golf Courses in the state – maybe even in the United States. Tournaments held there draw people from surrounding states because of the beauty and layout of the course. There will be a Disc Golf tournament during Labor Day Weekend.

• The Cornhole Tournament has become one of the favorite events during Labor Day weekend. Head out and support the Henryetta Lions Club during their 5th annual Jared Been Memorial Cornhole Tournament Sunday and Monday, Sept. 1-2.

• And, of course, the Jim Shoulders Rodeo will take place at Nichols Park arena. You may still purchase tickets in advance.

For a complete rundown of all the events, be sure to check the Henryetta Labor Day Celebration Facebook page.
