A Voluntary Precautionary Boil Advisory for residents of Okmulgee County on Rural Water District 2 (Okmulgee Distribution side) has been issued.
According to a District notice, due to the City of Okmulgee not providing enough water pressure to serve their feed at the master meter since the morning of July 27, the water tower reserves have been depleted and caused water outages in the water system.
“This has caused the potential for contamination as a result of this situation, the drinking water supplied by Okmulgee Rural Water 2 may be unsafe for human consumption. As a precaution, it is advised that the consumers of this water system bring the water to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking, consumption, food preparation, baby formula preparation, dish washing, tooth brushing, ice making, wound care, and bathing infants who may ingest bath water. Alternatively, bottled water or another acceptable water source may be used.”
Residents on Beggs Distribution are not affected and do not have to follow this notice.
If you are unsure what distribution you are on, please call their office at 918--756-8910, or after hours line and leave a message 918-759-7069 and someone will return your call. If you have not had low pressure or an outage, you are most likely not on the Okmulgee side.
This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Also on Monday, water buffalos were delivered to Twin Hills School and the Preston water office at 10035 Polk Ave. in Preston, and were available to customers.
According to water district, they have been working with the Okmulgee City Manager and Public Works, and they are working to resolve the problem.
