The Henryetta Public Library/Children’s Department had their next to last meeting for the summer reading program on Monday. Child’s Librarian Kathy Crosby talked to the kids about astronomy and how before today’s modern electronics and GPS, the sailors used the stars to navigate the oceans. She discussed the different constellations and how to identify them. Crosby then read to them “The Big Dipper” by Franklyn M. Branley. The kids then made Constellation Jars and took home papers to help them identify different constellations for when they look at the stars at night. A lot of fun was had today. Crosby reminded the kids that a special speaker is coming to entertain them next week and that they needed to come and see who it is. She also reminded them to bring in their reading records to get their prizes. They have until August 9 to get their prizes.
