Info still sought in cold case

Editor’s Note: The following case was featured on Oklahoma Cold Cases. Any information is helpful in solving this decades-old mystery.

– On January 1, 1994, the body of 26-yearold Shawna Jones was discovered face down in the shallow part of a pond on Bald Knob Mountain, west of Henryetta.

Shawna had taken her babysitter home around 2 a.m. on January 1st in her boyfriend’s 1993 Ford pickup, and was last seen alive around 2:30 a.m.

Her body was discovered by children playing near S. 15th Street, who informed their mother. The police were called to the scene at 6 p.m. The truck was found wrecked in the same area where her body was discovered. When police arrived, the body had allegedly been turned face up, with two footprints near her head. A human bite mark was found on her right forearm.

A toxicology screen done after her death was positive for alcohol.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) ruled her death an accident. However, it has been 30 years with no answers. Shawna was a mother to two girls, who were very young at the time of her death.

Today, they are still seeking answers in the death of their mother.

If you have any information regarding the death of Shawna Jones, please call the Okmulgee DA’s office at 918756-0794. You can also submit a tip anonymously to your local law enforcement agency.
