Lady Dragons tame Drumright to win district
By PATRICK FORD NEWS EDITOR,

The Dewar Lady Dragons Slowpitch Softball Team under the helm of Coach Stephen Castlebury, improved their record to 34-2 after three victories this week, including capturing the district title Wednesday as they hosted the Drumright Lady Tornadoes.

On Monday, the Lady Dragons blanked the Paden Lady Pirates, 11-0. Dewar got on the scoreboard first after a triple play by Gracie Johnson. Marti Yaerger had a double, Kinsey Maldonado tripled; and Brailee England hit into a fielder’s choice to score one run.

The Dragons added to their early lead and the top of the third inning after Kyli Davis hit into a fielder’s choice, and Gracie Johnson singled, scoring one run.

The Lady Dragons accumulated 13 hits including those by Yaerger, Johnson, Maldonado and Corbyn Anderson, each collecting multiple hits for the Dragons.

On Wednesday, the Lady Dragons took very little time to dispatch Drumright in the second game and only allowed one score, 12-0 in the first game, and 15-1 in the finale.

In the first game, the Dragons started their scoring with a homer by Yaerger, who scored two runs and Brooke Thomas grounded out scoring one run.

The Lady Dragons continued to rack up the score as the team had five runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Dewar collected 13 hits in the game.

The second matchup of the day saw Alyssa Baughman drive in four runs on three hits to lead the Lady Dragons past the Lady Tornadoes, 15-1. She tripled in the first inning, scoring two runs and hitting an inside the park home run in the third inning, scoring two.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Dragons scored five runs on five hits. England doubled, scoring two runs; Anderson singled, scoring one run and Dakota Duke hit a single, scoring one run.

Starting pitcher Callie Thomason surrendered six hits; one run in five innings, striking out two and walking none. The Lady Dragons piled up 20 hits in the game as Dewar easily captured the District title.
