Janet Bear

December 25, 1951 – April 3, 2024

Janet Kaye Bear of Muskogee, entered her heavenly home on April 3, 2024. Janet was the daughter of George Carmen Bear and Lucille (Berryhill) Bear. She was born in Dumas, Texas, on December 25, 1951, as a younger twin sister to Janice.

Janet attended Wilson School of Henryetta, graduating in 1970.

She attended Bacone College and East Central University majoring in the nursing program and received her baccalaureate degree from Northeastern University in Tahlequah.

Janet loved to travel and experience new places. A highlight of her travel was visiting several cities in France. She was a registered nurse and worked in several states at various hospitals and clinics. She has worked in the states of Washington, Montana, Virginia, Arizona, and Oklahoma.

Janet made herself known by her distinctive laugh and was always ready to hear or tell a funny story.

Preceding her in death are her maternal grandparents, John and Amy (Randall) Berryhill and paternal grandparents, Ben and Nettie (Herrod) Bear; all original enrollees of the Muscogee Nation. Also preceding are her mother and father, brothers John Buckner, Jr., Jay Buckner, Paul Bear, and Timothy Bear. Sisters preceding her in death are Georgette Bear, Rachel Ramirez, and Marcella Jones.

Survivors are sisters Esther Bell, Shawnee, Janice Bear, Okmulgee, Georgeann DeLaune, Okmulgee, and Debbie Bear, Checotah.

Surviving brothers are Michael Bear, Henryetta, and Anthony Bear, Butler.

Visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2024, 12 noon to 6 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Bear Family Cemetery at the Forest Creek Mission in the Wilson Community under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.
