Lions ready for Easter Egg Hunt Saturday

Donnie Alexander is guest speaker at meeting

Members of the Henryetta Lion’s Club convened for their regular meeting March 21 at The Shack 2.0. Led by President Lion Amber Mordecai, the meeting was filled with announcements, recognitions and plans for upcoming events.

The meeting opened with Sunshine Reports delivered by Lions Colleen Fowler and Ashley Morris. Morris presented the Trailblazer Award to Rheba’s Buds and Blooms from the Chamber, highlighting their outstanding contributions to the community.

The Tail Twister segment added an element of fun as Lion Sherri Crosby and Lion Missy Nash emerged victorious in the quiz, showcasing their knowledge and camaraderie.

Minutes from the previous meeting were approved following a motion made by Lion Shirley McCowan-Bussey and seconded by Lion Robert Fowler. Announcements included a Career Fair for Dewar Public Schools, the State Convention, and the forthcoming Bingo event in April.

Excitement buzzed around the upcoming Cruise Night on April 6, with Lions eagerly selling tickets for the 50/50 drawing. Lion Sherri Crosby proposed a competition, offering a $50 Rustlers gift card to the Lion who sells the most tickets.

Old business was revisited, with plans progressing for the Kickball event scheduled for July 6. Reminders were issued regarding dues payment and the upcoming Easter egg hunt at Nichols Park on March 30. It begins at 10 a.m. with over 45,000 eggs up for grabs, in addition to great prizes.

Election nominations were announced, with Lion Amber Mordecai nominated for President, Lion Ashley Morris for 1st Vice President, and Lion Lindsey McKinney for 2nd Vice President, among others.

Lion Jason Fry introduced Donnie Alexander as the guest speaker. Alexander, a scout master for Troop 102 in Okmulgee, shared insights on planting positive seeds and teaching life skills to scouts.

Troop 102 includes Beggs, Mounds, Twin Hills, Henryetta, Wilson and Morris.

The scouts sell camp cards to raise funds for summer camp, in which multiple Lions bought cards. If anyone is interested in being in the scout’s program, they meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Okmulgee First Assembly of God for 5th grade and under. For grades above 5th grade, they meet Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
