By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity slowpitch softball team snapped a 5-game losing streak last Thursday with a 12-5 victory over the North Rock Creek junior varsity team.

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity slowpitch softball team snapped a 5-game losing streak last Thursday with a 12-5 victory over the North Rock Creek junior varsity team.

The 7-run win came in the Lady Knights’ final game at the North Rock Creek Tournament at the Firelake Ball Fields in Shawnee.

Before the win, the Henryetta squad began tournament play last Thursday with a 14-4 loss to the North Rock Creek varsity team and an 8-7 loss to Ripley in Pool Play action.

The 1-2 record at the NRC Tourney puts the Lady Knights at 2-5 on the year with the only action this week scheduled for the Henryetta squad being Friday at the Preston Spring Break Festival, where the Lady Knights will battle Moss and Holdenville in back-to-back games at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively.

In last Thursday’s Pool Play game against North Rock Creek, the Henryetta ladies opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. NRC tallied five runs in each of its first two at-bats of the contest for a 10-2 advantage.

The Lady Knights’ final two runs of the meeting came in the top of the third, while the host Lady Cougars plated three in the third and one in the fourth for the 14-4, run-rule, decision.

The Henryetta offense was limited to just four hits in the loss, led by a 2-run home run in the third by Kassidy Lee. The other three Lady Knight hits against North Rock Creek came on a single by Winter Beaver, RBI single by Allie Davis, and RBI double by Shelby Kilhoffer.

In last Thursday’s Pool Play meeting with Ripley, the Lady Knights broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the second.

After Ripley made it a 3-1 contest with a run in the bottom of the second, the Henryetta squad plated a pair of runs in the top of the third for a 5-1 advantage.

Ripley cut the Henryetta lead to three, 5-2, with a run in the home half of the fourth, then outscored the Lady Knights by 3-1 margins in both the fifth and sixth innings to hand the Henryetta squad the 8-7 defeat.

The duo of Shelby Kilhoffer (2 for 3, double, home run, RBI) and Kinley Miller (2 for 2, single, triple) were the top offensive performers for the Lady Knights against Ripley with two hits apiece with Kilhoffer’s home run coming on a solo blast in the fifth.

The other Henryetta base hits in the narrow setback came on singles by Kassidy Lee, Allie Davis, and Shannan Corkerin, RBI singles by Ailanee Hicks and Chloe Swearingen, 3-run double by Haley Lewis, and solo home run by McKayla Greenhaw. Greenhaw’s roundtripper came in the third.

In last Thursday’s win over the North Rock Creek JV, the Lady Knights opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first. The Lady Cougar JV squad took over the lead at 2-1 with two runs in the top of the second, while Henryetta plated five runs in the home half of the second for a 6-2 advantage.

After a 3-run third by the North Rock JV squad cut the Henryetta lead to one, 6-5, the Lady Knights put the game out of reach with a 6-run bottom of fourth and capped off the 7-run victory by keeping the NRC junior varsity team off the scoreboard in the top of the fifth.

The Henryetta offense finished with 15 hits in the victory, led by the group of McKayla Greenhaw (2 for 3, 2 singles, RBI), Shelby Kilhoffer (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI), Ailanee Hicks (2 for 3, 2 singles, 2 RBIs), Winter Beaver (2 for 3, 2 singles, RBI), Allie Davis (2 for 3, 2 singles, RBI), and Shannan Corkerin (2 for 3, 2 singles, 3 RBIs) with two hits apiece.

The final three Lady Knight hits in the win came on singles by Haley Lewis and Chloe Swearingen and an RBI single by Kinley Miller.
