Lady Knights begin campaign with 8-5 win over Holdenville
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity slowpitch softball team began the 2024 campaign on a winning note last Thursday.

The Lady Knights kicked off the new season with a hard-fought 8-5 victory over the visiting Holdenville Lady Wolverines at the Henryetta softball field.

The Henryetta ladies were home Monday in a 3-way meeting with Prague and Berryhill, then competed in a 3-way showdown with Bristow and Perkins-Tryon in Bristow on Tuesday.

The Lady Knights will close out the week at the North Rock Creek Tournament at the Firelake Ball Fields in Shawnee.

In last Thursday’s season opener against Holdenville, the Lady Knights opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second and top of third, the Henryetta diamond squad extended its lead to 7-0 with a 3-run home half of the third.

Holdenville broke up the shutout bid with a run in the top of the fourth, then made it a 7-5 contest with four runs in its half of the fifth.

The Lady Knights pushed across the final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth, then held the visitors off the scoreboard in the final two frames of regulation to walk away with the 8-5, season-opening, victory.

Ailanee Hicks led the way offensively for the Lady Knights in the opener, finishing 3 for 3 with a pair of singles, home run, and 3 RBIs. Hicks’ roundtripper came on a 3-run blast in the bottom of the first.

The other Henryetta base hits against Holdenville came on singles by McKayla Greenhaw, Shelby Kilhoffer, Allie Davis, Kinley Miller, Winter Beaver, Chloe Swearingen, and Shannan Corkerin and RBI singles by Serenity Rex and Kassidy Lee.
