Demons close out season with back-to-back losses

The Beggs Golden Demon varsity basketball team saw their 2023-2024 season come to a close this past Friday with a 60-36 loss to the Adair Warriors.

The Beggs Golden Demon varsity basketball team saw their 2023-2024 season come to a close this past Friday with a 60-36 loss to the Adair Warriors.

The season-ending setback came in the consolation semifinals of the Class 3A, Area II, regional tournament at the Beggs Event Center.

The Demons found themselves in the consolation semifinal contest following a 65-36 loss to the Kansas Comets in last Thursday’s winner’s bracket semifinal battle in Beggs.

The Beggs gentlemen finish the 2023-2024 season with an 8-17 record.

In last Thursday’s winner’s bracket battle with Kansas, the visitors came out of the opening period with an 18-11 margin, then took a 30-18 lead into the intermission following a 12-7 advantage in the second quarter. The Demons were outscored by a combined 35-18 margin in the second half to suffer the 65-36 setback.

The top offensive contributor for the Demons against Kansas was Jaxon Remington with 14 points. Other Beggs scorers in the winner’s bracket loss were Rickey Smith and Jaylen Williams five each, Ezrah Anderson four, Jace Basquez three, Jason Nethon and Brayden King two apiece, and Jordan Wesley one.

In Friday’s season-ending loss to Adair, the Demons were outscored 14-7 in the first period, then outscored the Warriors 14-11 in the second stanza to cut the deficit to four, 25-21, at halftime. The Beggs squad was unable to get any closer, as Adair took the final two quarters by a combined 36-15 to hand the Demons the season-ending 60-36 defeat.

Leading the offensive attack in the season-ending loss was Rickey Smith with a team-high 16 points. The remaining Beggs scorers against Adair were Jaxon Remington with six, Dakota Hudson five, Jason Nethon four, Ezrah Anderson three, and Jaylen Williams two.
