Class 2A, 3A basketball playoff assignments released

Preston, Beggs to host district title games

The basketball playoff assignments for Classes 2A and 3A were released by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association last Friday afternoon.

The playoff brackets for these two classes are scheduled to be released on the OSSAA website (www.ossaa. com) on Friday.

Both teams of each district tournament in Classes 2A and 3A (besides several district tournaments in 3A), which are scheduled to take place next Friday and Saturday, will advance to their respective regional tournaments the following Thursday (February 22) with the winners competing in the winner’s bracket side of the tournament and will need three-straight wins for a trip to State and the losers dropping to the consolation side of the regional tournament and needing to win six-straight games in order to punch their tickets to their respective state tournaments.

There will be a total of five Okmulgee County varsity basketball programs that will battle for one of eight spots in the Oklahoma State Basketball Championships in March in Classes 2A and 3A with all five cage programs beginning their playoff journeys next Saturday (February 16).

The Preston Pirates and Lady Pirates and Beggs Golden Demons and Lady Demons will have the privilege of beginning postseason play in front of their hometown fans, as these two county cage programs were named as host sites for their respective district tournaments, while Beggs was also selected as the main site for its regional tournament February 22-24.

Preston, who will be looking for a second-straight trip to State this season, will compete in the Class 2A, Area II, District 5 tournament next Saturday against the Stroud Tigers and Lady Tigers at the Jim Waller Sports Complex in Preston. The girls district championship game between Preston and Stroud will take place at 6 p.m. followed by the boys district title contest at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Beggs will begin postseason play in the Class 3A, Area 2, District 2 tournament against the Luther Lions and Lady Lions at the Beggs Event Center. The girls district tournament title contest between Beggs and Luther is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. followed by the boys district title contest at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The other three county programs that will begin playoff action next Saturday are the Okmulgee Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs, Morris Eagles and Lady Eagles, and Henryetta Golden Knights and Lady Knights.

Okmulgee and Henryetta will compete in the Class 3A, Area III, district tournament with the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs traveling to Kellyville High School to battle the Kellyville Ponies and Lady Ponies for the District 2 championships, while the Knights and Lady Knights will travel to Holdenville to square off against the Holdenville Wolverines and Lady Wolverines for the District 5 titles.

Morris will begin postseason play at Chandler High School, battling the Chandler Lions and Lady Lions for the Class 3A, Area IV, District 5 championships.
