The Okmulgee County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee recently returned from the American Farm Bureau Federation Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they were one of 24 winners honored as having County Activities of Excellence program from across the nation.

The AFBF held its 105th Convention in Salt Lake City Jan. 19-24. The selected winners participated in the County Activities of Excellence program and demonstrated a commitment to offering quality programming to their counties. Attendees were able to learn more about these winning programs during the trade show at convention.

The Okmulgee County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee created the County Ag Tour, which exposed participants to various commodities grown right here in the county.

Attending from the county committee were Kristin Story, Leslie Lewis, Will Lewis, Brandon Story, Samantha Borjon, Chris Borjon and Tim Taylor.

“I’m proud of the strong leadership and engagement at the county level that leads to these outstanding volunteer-driven programs,” AFBF President Zippy Duvall said. “Improving the lives of Farm Bureau members, supporting our rural communities and giving our urban neighbors a window into the world of agriculture are all worthy goals.”

The Oklahoma Farm Bureau was awarded the American Farm Bureau New Horizon Award at the convention also.

OKFB’s Capitol Camp youth legislative experience, a two-day immersive mock legislative experience started in 2022 for 4-H and FFA members who are high school juniors and seniors to help them understand Oklahoma’s legislative branch and the lawmaking process.

The New Horizon Award recognizes one state Farm Bureau in each AFBF membership category for implementing a new program or event. OKFB received the award in AFBF’s membership category four.

Oklahoma Farm Bureau was also recognized with four AFBF State Awards of Excellence at the 2024 AFBF Convention. State Farm Bureaus are recognized for outstanding achievement in four possible award areas: advocacy, coalitions & partnerships, engagement & outreach and leadership & business development.
