Beggs splits road meeting at Kellyville

The Beggs varsity basketball program returned to action Tuesday evening, traveling to Kellyville for a showdown with the host Kellyville Ponies and Lady Ponies.

The Lady Demons, following a sixth-place finish at last weekend’s Henryetta Invitational Basketball Tournament, improved to 5-5 on the year with a 4843 victory over the host Lady Ponies in Tuesday’s opening contest.

The Demons, who entered Tuesday’s road game fresh off their fourth-place finish at Henryetta last weekend, dropped to 4-6 on the campaign with a 71-58 defeat in the nightcap.

The Beggs squads are scheduled to return to the hardwood this Friday evening with a short trip to Preston and a meeting with their arch rivals, the Preston Pirates and Lady Pirates, then are scheduled to return home January 16 in a county battle with Henryetta.

In Tuesday’s girls contest at Kellyville, the Lady Demons escaped the opening frame with a narrow 8-7 advantage, then outscored the host Lady Ponies 14-10 in the second stanza for a slim 22-17 lead at the halftime break.

Kellyville came out of the third period with a narrow 14-13 margin to send the contest into the final eight minutes of regulation with Beggs clinging to a 35-31 advantage.

The visitors took the final quarter by a 13-12 mar- gin to walk away with the 48-43 victory and even their season record at 5-5.

Rylee Youngblood led the way offensively for the Lady Demons, finishing with a team-high 17 points. The freshman guard was joined in double figures by Kamya Stallings with 13 and Konner Stanton with 10. Destiny Clay rounded out the Beggs scoring on Tuesday with an 8-point performance.

In the nightcap, the Demons trailed 18-13 after one quarter of action, then took the high-scoring second period by a slim 22-20 margin to go into the intermission down three, 38-35.

The host Ponies extended their lead to double digits – 57-47 with a 19-12 advantage in the third quarter, then outscored the visitors 14-11 in the final frame to hand the Demons the 71-58 defeat.

Jaxon Remington was tops offensively for Beggs in the loss with an 18-point performance. Dakota Hudson also reached double digits in scoring on Tuesday, finishing with 13. Other Demon scorers in the road contest were Jace Basquez with nine, Jaylen Williams eight, Ezrah Anderson four, and Rickey Smith and Brayden King three apiece.
