Molly Bang, American author and illustrator of children’s books, was born Dec. 29, 1943, in Princeton, N.J. the second of three children in her family. She grew up in Baltimore, and her mom was an illustrator and her dad a medical researcher.

Molly has a Master of Arts degree from the University of Arizona (1969) and Harvard University (1970). She has lived in Japan, India and Mali, and holds degrees in French and Oriental studies.
Her first book, “The Goblins Giggle,” was published in 1973. Molly has won many awards for her books, including three Caldecott Honor Books, the Boston Globe/Horn Book award in 1987 and the School of Library Journal Best Book Award for 1996.
In the 2000s, Molly and her daughter Monica Bang-Campbell joined as illustrator and writer on three picture books.
We have three of her (B-2) books, “The Paper Crane,” “Living Sunlight” and “When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry.”
The January themes on the library calendar include Braille Literacy Month, Get Organized Month, Hobby Month, International Creativity Month, Mentoring Month and Reach Your Potential Month.
