Tournament of Champions to kick off Wednesday

Annual 3-day event to take place at BOK Center

Sixteen of the best girls and boys basketball teams in the state of Oklahoma will converge on Tulsa’s BOK Center for three days this week to compete at the annual Tournament of Champions.

The annual 3-day event will officially begin this Wednesday at 9 a.m. with a girls first-round battle between Class 5A powerhouse Booker T. Washington (6-1) and Class 3A No. 19 Kiefer (4-2), followed by a boys first-round showdown between defending Class 6A state champion Edmond North (5-0) and Class A runner-up and current top-ranked Okay (8-0) at 10:30 a.m.

The other opening-round contests in Wednesday’s girls bracket will see defending Class 5A state champion Sapulpa (5-2) battle Class 2A No. 3 Riverside Indian School (8-0) at 12 p.m., Class 6A powerhouse Edmond Memorial (5-1) square off against Class 4A No. 8 Verdigris (6-2) at 4 p.m., and Class 5A Tahlequah (7-0) take on Class 4A No. 3 Lincoln Christian (6-1) at 7 p.m.

The other opening-round contests in Wednesday’s boys bracket will see Class 4A runner-up and current top-ranked Weatherford (7-0) take on Class 5A Crossings Christian (5-0) at 1:30 p.m., 2-time defending Class 2A state champion and current topranked Dale (13-1) squaring off against Class 4A No. 18 Tulsa Hale at 5:30 p.m., and Class 6A powerhouse Owasso (7-1) battle Class 3A state runner-up and current fifth-ranked Metro Christian (5-2) at 8:30 p.m.

Each day of the tournament will feature two sessions with a 1-hour break taking place between the conclusion of the second boys game and the third girls game each day.

Thursday’s morning session of tournament action will feature four consolation semifinal games, beginning with a girls loser’s bracket contest at 9 a.m. and concluding with a boys loser’s bracket game at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday’s evening session of tournament action will feature four semifinal contests, beginning with a girls winner’s bracket game at 4 p.m. and concluding with a boys winner’s bracket game at 8:30 p.m.

Friday’s morning session will feature seventh-place and consolation title games in both brackets, beginning with the girls seventh-place contest at 9 a.m., while the evening session will feature third-place and championship games in both brackets, beginning with the girls third-place contest at 4 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster on the BOK Center website. All session passes for each day of the tournament are $36 per person and are good for both sessions on that particular day (ie, Wednesday’s All-Session passes are only good for Wednesday’s games), while single session tickets are also on sale for $6 per person and are only good for the session associated with the ticket purchased (ie, Session 1 ticket is only good for Wednesday’s morning session).
