Morris native Joe Berryhill was sworn in Tuesday afternoon as the new mayor, with Javier Ramirez giving the oath of office.
Berryhill was joined by numerous family, city staff and community members for the ceremony.
The new mayor expressed thanks to all for their support and is looking forward to working to improve all facets to better the community.
Berryhill has strong ties to the city, as he graduated from Morris High School in 1998, going to work at Morris State Bank, which is now Mabrey Bank, for 20 years, and now works at the Okmulgee branch.
He and his wife Michele, have two daughters, and Michele owning her nail salon business, and the pair also owning rental properties in the community.
Berryhill is excited about getting to work for the city, and working along with the other council members as improvements are planned for the city, making Morris “The Little City with a Big Welcome” the best place in the state to live and raise families.
The Morris City Council meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Morris Senior Citizens Center.
