This past weekend, my kids came by and brought in all the Christmas decorations from the garage, and I spent a couple of days getting everything ready for holidays. I love Thanksgiving and ... I also love having the Christmas tree up right before the onset of our holidays.
Twice a week, I pick up my grandbaby Max in the afternoons and watch him for his parents. It’s one of the highlights of the week. Max is three years old now and talking up a storm. It’s such a fun age, because I never know what he might say or do.
So, I went to pick up Max as usual. I knew it would be a surprise for him to see the tree, but I was not prepared for just how precious it would be.
When Max stepped into the living room and saw the Christmas tree all lit up, his whole little body practically lifted into the air. With his arms spread wide, he exclaimed, “Gigi!” Then, with eyes like saucers and bringing his hands to his cheeks he said, “It’s, it’s, it’s soooo huge!” (I didn’t even know he knew the word huge.)
Seemingly mesmerized, he then climbed up on the couch and just sat staring at the tree. His reaction had me grinning ear to ear. It appeared that my grandbaby likes Christmas just as much as I do.
After a bit, he hopped down and kicked into high gear... he went to anything and everything Christmas. Everything was examined, leaving nothing out and with him happily telling me everything
He noticed every bird on the tree and then pretended to feed each and every one of them. When he finally realized there were gifts under the tree, he turned with sparkling eyes, “Gigi, I bet there is a dinosaur!”
I replied, “Maybe so Max, maybe so.” For the rest of the evening, we listened to records, played or looked up dinosaurs online.
Later, when Max was ready, I took him home. As he was walking behind his daddy to go into his house, Max stopped, turned and said, “Goodbye Mémé, I love you.”
Be still my heart. I love that baby to the moon and back. Hands down, Grandbabies are the best!
