Knights’ playoff chances remain following rout of Roland
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

Second-half push leads to latest Henryetta victory

The Henryetta Golden Knight varsity football team inched one step closer to earning their second-straight playoff appearance with a 46-6 victory over the Roland Rangers.

The dominating win came last Friday night in the Knights’ final regular-season home game at historic Cameron Field and put the Henryetta squad in a tie with the Keys Cougars for the fourth spot in the District 2A-5 standings with a 3-3 district record.

The Knights can earn a second-straight postseason berth this Friday with a road win at Keys. A loss to the Cougars on Friday will bring Henryetta’s playoff dreams to a close.

Friday’s regular-season finale at Keys is set for a 7 p.m. start time.

In last Friday’s final home game of the regular season, the Knights got the scoring started at the 6:14 mark of the opening frame on a 72-yard pass from Brady Norman to Will Perez. The PAT kick was unsuccessful, giving the Henryetta squad the early 6-0 advantage.

A 77-yard pass from Norman to Nathan Nail at 1:20 of the first quarter doubled the Knight lead to 12-0. Blaze Hill toed the PAT kick to increase the Henryetta margin to 13-0 after the first 12 minutes of action.

The second quarter became a defensive battle to send the teams to the halftime break with Henryetta still clinging to a 13-0 advantage.

The Knights erupted for 33 points in the final two quarters to turn a narrow lead into a blowout victory.

Nick Hudson opened the second-half scoring for Henryetta with a 5-yard TD run at the 8:44 mark in the third quarter. The PAT kick was unsuccessful to -extend the Henryetta lead to 19-0.

The Knights’ next scoring play in the third frame came on a 58-yard aerial strike from Norman to Perez with 4:27 left in the quarter, pushing the Henryetta advantage to 25-0.

Roland tallied its lone score of the contest on a 22yard pass from Logen Thomas to Dalton Crossno at the 1:58 mark of the third quarter, sending the game to the final 12 minutes of regulation with Henryetta in front by a 25-6 margin.

A 26-yard pass from Norman to Hudson at 10:26 in the fourth stanza, followed by Hill’s successful PAT kick made it a 32-6 contest.

A 4-yard run by Weston Wincle with 8:58 remaining in regulation pushed the Knight lead to 38-6, while David Reid’s 7-yard run and Hudson’s conversion pass to Tucker McManus with 1:14 left put the finishing touches on Henryetta’s 46-6 victory.

Norman finished 7 of 10 passing for 331 yards and 4 TDs in the blowout victory, including completing three passes for more than 50 yards – two of which went to Perez.
