Dragons continue streaks with blowout of Midway
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Dewar Dragon varsity football team kept their winning streaks intact last Friday with a 66-6 road victory over the Midway Chargers.

The lastest ‘Mercy Rule’ win pushed Dewar’s regular-season win streak to 53 games and district win streak to 34 games.

The blowout win pushed the Dragons’ season record to 9-0, heading into Friday’s regular-season finale at Caddo. The 60-point victory kept the Dewar squad unbeaten in district play at 4-0 and tied with Caddo for the top spot in the District B-5 standings.

Friday’s winner in the regular- season finale in Caddo will be crowned the B-5 champion and earn two-straight postseason home games, while the loser will finish as the district runner-up and will begin the playoffs in front of their hometown crowd.

Dewar’s district championship battle with Caddo on Friday is scheduled to get started at 7 p.m. at Caddo High School.

In last Friday’s road win at Midway, the Dragons opened the scoring with a 16-yard TD run by Cash Faulkner in the first quarter. Faulkner then crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to give Dewar the early 8-0 advantage.

The next Dewar score in the opening stanza came on an 8-yard TD pass from Christian Cargola to Ben Atoigue. Cargola then completed the 2-point conversion pass to Naea Corbin to double the Dewar lead to 16-0.

Nevin Corbin’s 40-yard TD run and conversion run by Tradyn Doty in the first quarter extended the Dragon margin to 24-0, then Cargola’s 17-yard scamper and successful conversion run by Wesley Sanford later in the opening frame made it a 32-0 advantage for the Dewar squad.

The final three Dragon scores in the opening frame came on a 16-yard run by Nevin Corbin, 1-yard run by Remy Martin, and 36-yard run by Faulkner, respectively. Doty ran in the first two conversion attempts, while JoJo Waters crossed the goal line on the final conversion attempt for a commanding 56-0 lead for the Dewar gridiron squad.

Midway broke the shutout bid with a 36-yard TD pass from Tristan Wolfe to Sam Fowler at the start of the second quarter.

Cargola’s 60-yard TD run and Waters conversion run in the second frame made it a 64-6 Dewar lead, while the final Dragon tally in the first half came on a defensive safety, awarding the visiting Dragons the 66-6 decision.
