Dewar continues win streaks with rout of Porum
By LARRY OWEN SPORTS EDITOR,

The Dewar Dragon varsity football team continued their winning ways last Thursday with a 58-0 rout of the host Porum Panthers.

The shutout win over Porum extended the Dragons’ two current winning streaks – regular-season (51) and district (32) – and marks the sixth time this season that the Dewar squad has had a game end on the 45-point Mercy Rule.

The Dragons (7-0, 2-0) will look to continue their win streaks this Thursday at home against the Quinton Savages, who enter the District B-5 meeting with a 4-3 season record and 1-1 in district play.

Thursday’s district battle with Quinton is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. at historic Dr. Ted Lewis Stadium in Dewar.

In last Thursday’s road win at Porum, the Dragons erupted for 44 points in the first 12 minutes of action, beginning with an 11-yard scamper by Nevin Corbin. The senior tailback then crossed the goal line on the conversion attempt to put the Dewar squad in front early, 8-0.

The next three Dewar scores came through the air on TD passes by senior Christian Cargola. Cargola’s first aerial score went for 41 yards to Keelan Berry, while the other two went for distances of 36 and 25 yards, respectively, to Nevin Corbin. Nevin Corbin ran in the conversion attempt following his first receiving touchdown, while the other two conversion attempts were unsuccessful to put the Dewar in complete control at 28-0.

The final two scores for the Dragons in the first quarter came on an 8-yard run by Cash Faulkner and successful conversion run by JoJo Waters and a 20-yard run and successful conversion run by Wesley Sanford for a dominating 44-0 Dewar lead at the end of the first 12 minutes of action.

The next Dewar score in the contest came on special teams, as Faulkner returned a missed Porum field goal attempt 97 yards to paydirt. The try for two was unsuccessful, extending the Dewar lead to 50-0 early in the second stanza.

Tradyn Doty put the finishing touches on the Dragon rout with a 25-yard TD run midway through the second quarter. Remy Martin ran in the conversion attempt to complete the 58-0 shutout win for the Dewar Dragons.
